    Office Automation, Records Filing and Job Performance of Secretarial Staff in Ministry of Education, Ekiti State, Nigeria

    Job performance is crucial for provision of quality services in the organizations which in turn raises the satisfaction of the customers. However, secretarial staff were perceived not to be well trained in handling information technology and also some of the technology available for record filing are not in vogue, this has resulted in decline of job performance of these staff. Hence, this study investigated the influence of Office Automation, Records Filing and Job Performance of Secretarial Staff in Ministry of Education in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Correlational survey research design was adopted for the study. The population consists of one hundred and ninety-six secretarial staff in Ekiti State Ministry of Education and total enumeration was adopted for the sample techniques. A primary data was collected to address the objectives of the study through a structured questionnaire in line with existing literature. The reliability co-efficient for the constructs was 0.9. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Office automation and record filing used by secretarial staff of Ekiti State Ministry of Education significantly influenced the job performance of secretaries in the organisation (Adj. R2 = 0.470, F(2,185)= 83.986, p= 0.000). This study therefore concluded that improving record filing method both manually and technologically made them to be attractive to work and will eventually result in improved job performance among secretarial staff of Ekiti State Ministry of Education. Also, regular training, and exposure to proper training programmes on how to use ICT facilities and office equipment effectively and efficiently will enhance their job performance. The study recommended that Ekiti State government should empower secretaries with different method of record filing for them to improve their record keeping, retrieval, processing and disposal skills.
