    Information Literacy Skills, Use of Media Resources and Perceived Learning Outcome of Senior Secondary School Students in Ogun State, Nigeria

    The learning outcome of students is a major concern among educational stakeholders in Nigeria. This has led to examinations of various factors affecting learning outcomes among different categories of students. This study examined the influence of information literacy skills and use of media library resources on the learning outcome of secondary school students in Ogun state. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population consist of one thousand, three hundred and thirty-six (1336) out of which 307 students were selected from secondary schools from the (3) senatorial districts in Ogun State through a multi-stage sampling technique. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show a high level of learning outcome (Mean = 3.50), moderate use of library media resources (Mean = 3.45) and high level of information literacy skills (Mean = 3.50) among the students. The test of hypotheses also showed that both information literacy skills, (Adj R2 = 0.419; p: 0.000) and library media resources use (Adj R2 = 0.646; p: 0.000) have significant influence on learning outcomes among the students. The study concluded that improved learning outcome among secondary school students is possible through the provision of effective school library services and attention to the information literacy skills of students. In line with this, it was recommended that school libraries in Ogun State should provide additional training in advanced information search techniques, such as the use of Boolean operators and filters. This would empower students to navigate digital and physical information sources more effectively.
