    This research delves into the critical importance, legal and ethical necessity of consent and informed consent in the doctor-patient relationship in Nigeria. It explores the ethical and legal foundations, the significance of patient autonomy, and the implications of informed decision- making. In the realm of healthcare, the doctor-patient relationship stands as a cornerstone of trust, communication, and shared decision-making. Central to this dynamic alliance are the principles of consent and informed consent, which hold profound implications for ethical healthcare practices. This research embarks on a comprehensive exploration of the role of consent with emphasis on informed consent within the doctor-patient relationship, with a particular focus on the critical significance of informed consent as a legal requirement. Looking into the ethical, legal, and practical dimensions, this study illuminates the bulk of obligations, responsibilities, and benefits that underpin the concept of consent in modern healthcare. By analyzing historical contexts, legal frameworks, ethical considerations, communication dynamics, and patient outcomes, this research seeks to provide a holistic understanding of the necessity of consent and informed consent in the doctor-patient relationship.
