Item Effect of Interactive Materials' Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Omenihu George ODUALI; Christianah Olajumoke SAM-KAYODESet Theory as a topic in Mathematics in Senior Secondary School has been viewed as an unclear topic to students due to the unavailability of appropriate instructional materials to teach the topic, which in succession leaves students with limited or no understanding of the topic. This study was carried out on the Effect of Interactive Materials' Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State. Aquasi-experimental design which involved pre-test and post-test with two intact groups was used for the study. Eighty-five SSS2 Students from two Senior Secondary Schools participated in the study. One school was used for treatment and the other school for control. One research question and one research hypothesis that was tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. The results revealed a significant effect of interactive materials' intervention on the academic achievement of students in Mathematics Set Theory at the Senior Secondary Schools in Oyo South Senatorial District (t= -6.981, p < 0.05). It was recommended that Mathematics teachers should make use of interactive materials as much as possible in teaching set theory at the senior secondary schools. It was also recommended that they should motivate students to actively engage with the interactive materials during lessons and allow them to manipulate objects, solve problems using visual aids, or collaborate in group activities. This study investigated the ‘’Effect of Interactive Materials Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students’ Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District. A 2x2x3 quasi-experimental design which involved pretest, posttest and intact group was used for the study. Eighty-five (85) Senior Secondary School Two (SSS2) Students were used from two Senior Secondary Schools. One research question and three hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. Data were analysed using t-tests and ANCOVA. The results revealed that there was a significant effect of interactive materials’ intervention on the academic achievement of Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District (F(1,82) = 50.317, P < 0.05, n 2 = 0.380), there was no significant main effect of gender an senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in set theory in Oyo South Senatorial District ((F(2,81) = 2.545, P > 0.05, n2 = 0.059); there was no significant interaction effect of intervention and gender on Senior Secondary School Students’ academic achievement in set theory in Oyo South Senatorial District (F(1,80) = 2.758, P > n2 = 0.033); there was no significant interaction effect of intervention and subject combination on Senior Secondary School Students’ academic achievement in set theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State. It was recommended that curriculum planners and policy makers should make the use of interactive materials a vital part of Mathematics training programs. Awotan Waste Pick Effect of Interactive Materials' Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Omenihu George ODUALI; Christianah Olajumoke SAM-KAYODEUrban waste picking is assuming more visibility in the Nigerian informal economy with its waste to wealth potential. Agrowing body of literature identifies this activity as a viable source of income which leaves pickers vulnerable to health hazards inspite of little formal recognition by the state. Although persistent forays into this as a livelihood activity continues, more research is needed to properly understand the social dimensions of this issue. The study examined waste pickers risk perceptions, safety practices and public attitudes at work at Awotan landfill in Ibadan. Primary data was collected through questionnaires administered to 81 active pickers on site. Data was analyzed using inferential statistics. Results indicate that most pickers had at least a primary school level of education. There were twice as more males than females. More than 70% indicated the most prevalent health problem encountered at work were serious punctures and injuries from sharp objects followed by diarrhoeal and typhoid infections. 88% felt that their work type impacted on their health in hazardous ways such as snake bites and stings, falls and slips and held strong perceptions about the work-health implications for illnesses. Hospital waste was the most feared due to its association with probable blood infections from used needles, blood/body waste. Public attitudes to pickers while working was often negative. There is a very high risk of exposure to pathogens at work and study results may inform health policy on direct points of intervention for workers amidst continued interaction with waste
