Item Data Literacy and Research Data Management Services by Librarians in University Libraries, Lagos State, Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Busola Olufeyi AJOKOTOLAResearch data management service is the future of librarianship but this services may not become widespread in Nigeria unless librarians acquire the necessary skills and competencies which seems to be currently missing among majority of librarians. This study examined the influence of librarians’ data literacy skills on research data management services by librarians in University Libraries in Lagos State, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire was adopted as the instrument for data collection. The study population is made up of ninety-nine (99) academic librarians in universities across Lagos State. Total enumeration was employed which means all the population was sampled. The study found that data collection (R = 0.609, p<0.05), data evaluation (R = 0.713, p<0.05), and data application (R = 0.744, p<0.05) all have significant influence on research data management services. It was also found that all the elements of data literacy have significant influence on research data management services (Adj. R2= 0569, F(3,84)= 111.886, p= 0.000). The study concluded the effective data management in academic libraries is highly dependent on data literacy skills of librarians. It is therefore recommended that regular training should be conducted for academic librarian so that they can continue to improve their data literacy skills and render effective research data management services to enhance research productivity. Word Count: 219Item Information Behaviour and Perceived Academic Performance of Students in Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, Oyo State(Lead City University, 2022-12) Olubunmi BAKAREThis study examines the impact of information behaviour on students’ perceived academic performance in Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, Oyo State. The survey research design was used in data collection from the respondents. Two hundred and forty-two (242) copies of questionnaires were administered, one hundred and seventy-four (174) copies was valid for data analysis. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach’s alpha to determine items which are consistent with the others. Result from the reliability test was used to determine items that were included in the questionnaire. The research questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) while the hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics (regression analysis). The acceptable level of significance was 0.05. The study found the students perceived their academic performance as high. However, majority of them indicated that they consider their academic just above average and not outstanding. This suggests that majority of them are aware that they are not performing to the best of their abilities. A significant portion of these information needs are focused on academic activities. There are however some challenges with the students finding it difficult to explain their exact information needs to professionals such as librarians and the students often face challenges in choosing the relevant information resources from numerous similar resources, have challenges in the use of scholarly databases and rarely uses keyword search. The study recommended that students should be provided with counselling and mentoring services that can improve academic performance so that they can perform to the best of their abilities, Librarians should develop various finding aids and information retrieval tools that can help students identify and retrieve the needed information with ease and so on. Despite all these efforts the goal of the library personnel to provide these effective and efficient services are often met with failure due to certain underlying factors ranging from institutional factors facing the libraries and the job motivation of library personnel. It is in this regard that this study therefore deems it fit to investigate the Institutional Factors (IF), Job Motivation (JM) and Service Delivery (SD) by library personnel in public university libraries in Oyo state. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of 100 library personnel in public universities library in Oyo state, Nigeria. Total enumeration to select the sample. A validated questionnaire was also used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the data analysis. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.52 to 0.61. The study found that institutional factors (Adj. R2 = 0.0297; p = 0.000) and job motivation (Adj. R2 = 0.292; p = 0.00) had a significant relationship with service delivery. In addition, institutional factors and job motivation (Adj. R2 = 0.428, F(2,86)= 33.964, p = 0.000) were found to have a joint statistically significant influence on service delivery. This study concluded that service delivery in academic libraries can greatly be enhance with the right amount of institutional factors and job motivation for the library personnel. The study therefore recommended that library management should regularly advocate for the institutional factors needed for effective service delivery in the university libraries and pay attention to library personnel’s motivation. The study adopted a survey research design with the population consisting of 86 library personnel drawn from six academic libraries. Total enumeration was adopted for the sampling. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire adapted from existing studies and validated for the purpose of the study. The data collected was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicate a high level of collection development practices (Mean = 2.97); institutional support (Mean = 3.178), and the library managers adopt a mixture of autocratic, democratic, and laissez faire leadership styles. The test of hypotheses also indicates that leadership styles (Adj. R2 = 0. 192, F (1, 81) = 20.518, p= 0.000) and institutional support (Adj. R2 = 0.140, F (1, 81) = 13.239, p= 0.000) has a significant influence on collection development practices in academic libraries in Ekiti state. It was also found that leadership styles and institutional support have a significant combined influence on impact on the collection development practices in academic libraries in Ekiti State (Adj. R2 = 0.198, F(2,81)= 11.093, p= 0.000) although it was found that only leadership style has a joint effect on collection development practices. The study therefore concluded that the place of effective leadership in achieving the overall objectives of academic libraries cannot be overemphasised. It was recommended that Library managers and libraries personnel need to become more skilled in articulating their needs and how those needs benefit their parent institutions. Situations whereby attitude is nothing to write home about and students find it difficult to use EIRs, the resultant effect will be associated with the academic work of students in school settings. The study investigated the influence of perceived ease of use (PEU) and attitude of Ogun state seminary postgraduate students towards the use of EIRs. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. Population consists of 290 postgraduate students of theological seminaries in Ogun state. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed to survey 215 postgraduate students. The reliability coefficient for each the variable ranged from 0.75 to 0.95. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that (PEU) had no significant influence on use of EIRs (Adj. R2 = -0.004; p < 0.000), attitude to use of EIRs also was found to significantly influence use of EIRs (Adj. R2 = 0.034; p > 0.000). Jointly, PEU was found not to statistically significantly influence use of EIRs (Adj. R2 = 036, F (2,119) = 4.712, p > 0.05), while attitude to use of EIRs was found to statistically significantly influence use of EIRs (β = .217; t = 3.042; p > 0.05). The study concluded that perceived ease of use and attitude to use of EIRs independently influenced use of EIRs. However, only PEU was found to jointly influence use of EIRs. The study recommended that management of theological seminaries in Ogun state should subscribe to have in their libraries e-journals. Descriptive survey research was used for the study. The population of the study was 164 library personnel in universities in Oyo State. An adapted questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collecti,,m on, census sampling technique was used due to manageable population. The data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Linear and multiple regressions were used for hypotheses testing at a 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the hypothesis disclosed that there is a significant influence of motivation on job performance of library personnel among universities in Oyo State and there is a significant influence of leadership styles on job performance of library personnel among universities in Oyo State (p=0.000<0.05) respectively. The result of the hypothesis also revealed that motivation and leadership styles have joint influence on the level of job performance but at a low rate. Word count: 274Item Development Programmes, Fundraising Strategies and Library Patronage in Public Libraries in South West, Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Oyedoyin Faith ERUEMOLOPublic libraries exist to cater for the information need of all categories of users in a community. Their role in nation building cannot be over emphasized. Access to public libraries can majorly be achieved through various developmental programs as well as how fund is being raised to adequately fund public libraries in order to make it more appealing to her teeming users. Absence of these two factors, development programs and fundraising strategies will perhaps make public libraries a ghost of itself in existence. It is in this light that this study deems it fit to investigate how development programs (DP) and fundraising strategies (FS) contribute to library patronage (LP) in public libraries in south west, Nigeria. Quantitative and qualitative research designs was adopted for this study. Population consisted of 134 librarians in public libraries in south west, Nigeria. Total enumeration sampling technique also served as the sample technique adopted for the study. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.75 to 0.90. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive, inferential statistics and textual content analytical approach. Findings revealed that DP had no significant influence on LP (Adj. R2 = 0.007; p = 0.692), FS was found to significantly influence LP (Adj. R2 = 0.178; p = 0.000). Jointly, only FS was found to statistically significantly influence LP (Adj. = .173, F (2,125) = 14.275, p < 0.05), while DP was found not to statistically significantly influence LP (β = .044; t =- .546; p > 0.05). The study concluded that only FS independently influenced LP. Content analysis wise, only Lagos state public library has a robust plan of developmental programs. Fundraising of public libraries in south west, Nigeria is mostly done by respective state governments in the region. The study recommended that there should be more funding. Word Count: 299Item Information Behaviour and Library Patronage of Undergraduates in Private Universities Oyo State, Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Samson Abiodun ADENIRANThis study examined the influence of information behavior on library patronage among undergraduate students in private universities in Oyo State. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire was adopted as the instrument for data collection. The study population is made up of eight thousand, six hundred and fifty-nine (8,659) undergraduate students in private universities across Oyo State. The sample size of 368 was used for the study as obtained from Krejcie and Morgan sample size calculator. Data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found a low level of library patronage among the students. The study also found that the students mostly need information for personal development. In addition, it was found that the preferred sources of information are academic journals, internet sources, and the library. The test of hypotheses revealed that information needs (R = 0.329, p<0.05), information seeking behaviour (R = 0.292, p<0.05) and information use (R = 0.329, p<0.05) have a significant influence on library patronage. In addition it was found that the combination information needs, information seeking behavior and information use has a significant but weak relationship with the library patronage by undergraduates in private universities in Oyo State(Adj. R2= 0.092, F(2,334)= 17.989, p= 0.000). The study concluded that academic libraries must do their best to understand the information behaviour of their clientele. It is therefore recommended that students and other library patrons should be involved in the collection development process. However, secretarial staff were perceived not to be well trained in handling information technology and also some of the technology available for record filing are not in vogue, this has resulted in decline of job performance of these staff. Hence, this study investigated the influence of Office Automation, Records Filing and Job Performance of Secretarial Staff in Ministry of Education in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Correlational survey research design was adopted for the study. The population consists of one hundred and ninety-six secretarial staff in Ekiti State Ministry of Education and total enumeration was adopted for the sample techniques. A primary data was collected to address the objectives of the study through a structured questionnaire in line with existing literature. The reliability co-efficient for the constructs was 0.9. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Office automation and record filing used by secretarial staff of Ekiti State Ministry of Education significantly influenced the job performance of secretaries in the organisation (Adj. R2 = 0.470, F(2,185)= 83.986, p= 0.000). This study therefore concluded that improving record filing method both manually and technologically made them to be attractive to work and will eventually result in improved job performance among secretarial staff of Ekiti State Ministry of Education. Also, regular training, and exposure to proper training programmes on how to use ICT facilities and office equipment effectively and efficiently will enhance their job performance. The study recommended that Ekiti State government should empower secretaries with different method of record filing for them to improve their record keeping, retrieval, processing and disposal skills. A descriptive survey research design is adopted for the study. The population of the study is 140 comprising both librarians and library officers in tertiary institutions in Ondo State, Nigeria. Data are collected through a structured questionnaire and are analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Linear and multiple regressions are used for hypothesis testing at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings ascertain the types of library services in tertiary institutions' libraries include technical, readers, and ICT services. Both the level of service delivery by library personnel and human capital development of library personnel in the tertiary institutions’ libraries are high. The Ho1 reveals there is a significant influence of human capital development on service delivery by library personnel in tertiary institutions’ libraries in Ondo State at (R = 0. 776, p<0.05).The Ho2 reveals the significant influence of work environment on service delivery by library personnel in tertiary institutions’ libraries in Ondo State at (R = 0.812, p<0.05). The Ho3 reveals that there is a joint influence of human capital development and work environment on service delivery by library personnel in tertiary institutions’ libraries in Ondo State at a low rate. It is, therefore, recommended that Library management should give the necessary support to the library personnel in continuous education and training to acquire more skills, knowledge, and abilities to enhance their service delivery. Also, a conducive environment should be provided for the library personnel to carry out their duties effectively. However, preliminary investigation, close observation and literature review has revealed a decline in the research competency of postgraduate students of universities in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria. As a result, information are not effectively sourced, the little they could source for are not effectively and efficiently evaluated and synthesized. Hence, this study seems to investigate information literacy programmes, information literacy skills and research competency of postgraduate students of universities in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria. This study used descriptive and cross-sectional survey research. The population of this study is made of 10,000 postgraduate students of universities in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria. The sample size for this study includes three hundred and seventy (370) students, all of whom are postgraduate students of the two public universities in Lagos State through Krejcie and Morgan sampling size table. The instrument utilized is a structured questionnaire. All hypotheses tested revealed that there exist significant positive influence of task definition, information seeking strategies, location and access to information, use of information, information synthesis and information evaluation on the research competency of postgraduate students of universities in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria (F(1,345) = 369.527 (F(1,345) =17.094, p < 0.05), (F(1,345) = 132.409 p < 0.05), (F(1,345) = 294.886 p < 0.05), (F(1,345) = 364.736 p < 0.05), (F(1,345) = 30.431 p < 0.05). Studies have revealed that among several factors that can promote job satisfaction, two are quite prominent. They are institutional support (IS)and career development (CD) practices. A situation whereby these two factors are absent in practice both from a managerial perspective and employee perspective, then job satisfaction level of employees will be undermined. It is in this regard that this study therefore deems it fit to investigate the influence of institutional support and career development on job satisfaction of health information professionals in teaching hospitals in Lagos state. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of 155 health information management professionals in teaching hospitals in Lagos state. 155 health information professionals served as the sample size for this study. Total enumeration sampling technique was adopted as the sampling technique for this study as well. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.70 to 0.88. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Institutional Support had significant influence on Job Satisfaction of Health Information Management Professionals (Adj. R2 =.056; p = 0.000), Career Development was also found to significantly influence Job Satisfaction of Health Information Management Professionals (Adj. R2 = .048; p = 0.000). Jointly, Institutional Support and Career Development were found to statistically and significantly influence Job Satisfaction of Health Information Management Professionals (Adj. = .088, F(2, 148) = 8.259, p < 0.05). The study concluded that both Institutional Support and Career Development do independently and jointly influenced Job Satisfaction of Health Information Management Professionals in Teaching Hospitals. In light of this, the study recommended that Management of Teaching Hospitals should improve job conditions of Health Information Management Professionals, give necessary support towards their career growth and development, and review their organizational policies in such a way that provisions for rewarding hard working Health Information Professionals should always be implemented. Furthermore, Health Information Management Professionals should strive at attaining higher career developmental levels through exposure to trainings, seminars, academic advancement, etc in order to meet up with the challenges of their profession. These factors are less effective library user education (LUE) and library anxiety (LA). When these factors are dominant in the life of users, making use of information resources as available in a library will become questionable. For this not to be so, this study deemed it fit to investigate the influence of library user education and library anxiety on use of information resources by students of Federal Colleges of Agriculture Ibadan, Oyo State. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of eight hundred and ten (810) ND 1 and ND 2 students of Federal Colleges of Agriculture Oyo State. Proportionate Sampling technique was adopted as the sampling technique for this study as well. 265 respondents served as the sample size for this study. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.85 to 0.95. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that LUE had significant influence on use of IR (Adj. R2 =0.027; p = 0.009), LA was also found to significantly influence use of IR (Adj. R2 = 0.012; p = 0.044). Jointly, LUE was the only one found to statistically significantly influence use of IR (Adj. R2 = .033, F(2, 246) = 5.221, p < 0.05), but LA was found not to jointly statistically significantly influence use of IR. The study concluded that LUE and LA independently influenced use of IR, but jointly LA did not. It was recommended that Librarians have to adopt appropriate and acceptable form of library user education methodology to promote massive use of information resources. Computer self-efficacy training should also be incorporated when carrying out library user education. When this is not the case, there is every tendency that that organization might collapse. It is in this regard that this study therefore deems it fit to investigate the Information Seeking Behavior (ISB), Electronic Information Resources (EIR)Use and Research Productivity (RP) of lecturers in private universities in Oyo state. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of 520 lecturers in private universities in Oyo state, Nigeria. 217 lecturers served as the sample size after Krejcie and Morgan was applied to determine the sample size. Multi stage sampling technique was used as well as a validated questionnaire was also used to collect data. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.72 to 0.81. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that (ISB) had significant influence on (RP) (Adj. R 2 = 0.089; p = 0.000), EIR also was found to be significant to (RP) (Adj. R 2 = 0.216; p = 0.000). Jointly, ISB was found to statistically significantly influence RP (Adj. = .111, F(2,114) = 16.56, p < 0.05), while EIR was found not to statistically significantly influence RP (β = .095; t = .912; p > 0.05). The study concluded that ISB and EIR independently influenced RP. However, onlyISB was found to jointly influence RP. The study recommended that academic libraries should sensitize lecturers on the need to always publish in high impact journals courtesy of the use of various EIR as available in academic libraries. It is in this regard that this study therefore deems it fit to investigate the Information Seeking Behavior (ISB), Electronic Information Resources (EIR)Use and Research Productivity (RP) of lecturers in private universities in Oyo state. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of 520 lecturers in private universities in Oyo state, Nigeria. 217 lecturers served as the sample size after Krejcie and Morgan was applied to determine the sample size. Multi stage sampling technique was used as well as a validated questionnaire was also used to collect data. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.72 to 0.81. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that (ISB) had significant influence on (RP) (Adj. R2 = 0.089; p = 0.000), EIR also was found to be significant to (RP) (Adj. R2 = 0.216; p = 0.000). Jointly, ISB was found to statistically significantly influence RP (Adj. = .111, F(2,114) = 16.56, p < 0.05), while EIR was found not to statistically significantly influence RP (β = .095; t = .912; p > 0.05). The study concluded that ISB and EIR independently influenced RP. However, only ISB was found to jointly influence RP. The study recommended that academic libraries should sensitize lecturers on the need to always publish in high impact journals courtesy of the use of various EIR as available in academic libraries. The importance of this study is centred on significance attached to science being an apparatus adopted for actualising national growth in Nigeria. This study addressed the following research questions: What is the level of science subject content delivery in private schools in Ekiti State? What is the level of school library support available to science teachers in private schools in Ekiti State? What are the inquiry based teaching methods adopted by private school teachers in Ekiti State? This study was underpinning with the theory of constructivist theories, while the study’s population comprised science teachers in private schools in Ekiti State. The study employed both stratified and purposive samplings. The sample size for the study was 72. Questionnaires was the instruments of data collection. Response rates of 88.9% was obtained. The version 24 of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analysed the questionnaire to generate descriptive statistics for the research questions and inferential statistics for the hypotheses. The findings revealed that inquiry based approach has a significant influence on content delivery of science subjects in private schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria (R = 0.858, p<0.05), and that the higher the level of inquiry based approach adopted, the more effective the content delivery for science subjects. Similarly, the test of hypothesis revealed that school library support has a significant influence on content delivery of science subjects in private schools in the state. Far reaching recommendations that could position school libraries for effective service delivery were offered by the study. However, effective Digital reference services (DRS) delivery may be difficult to achieve without digital readiness and an adequate level of institutional support for academic libraries. The study, therefore, examined the influence of institutional support and e-readiness on the delivery of Digital Reference Services (DRS) by University Libraries in Oyo state. The study adopted a mixed method approach, the population of the study is 65 comprised of librarians in 10 universities, Oyo State Nigeria and a total enumeration sampling method was used. A structured questionnaire and structured interview guide were used to gather data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for quantitative data analysis while the interview was also analysed and interpreted using thematic content analysis. The test of hypotheses shows that e-readiness (ß=0.414, t=3.612, p<0.05) and institutional support (ß=0.654, t=6.858, p<0.05) respectively influence effective DRS delivery. However, it was found that only institutional support (ß=0. 925, t=5.467, p>0.05) has a joint influence on DRS delivery while e-readiness of librarians (ß=0.203, t =1.224, p<0.05) does not have a joint influence. The findings of the qualitative discussion showed that the libraries render both asynchronous and synchronous digital references. However, there is a lack of adequate staff to provide DRS, irregular power supply and internet connection. The study concluded that digital reference service delivery is still at the elementary stage in the libraries studied but there are signs of further progress due to the availability of institutional support and the e-readiness of librarians. The study, therefore, recommended continuing personnel development to ensure effective digital reference services. Theoretical framework adopted in this study is theory of performance, for perceived academic performance, TAM1 used for motivation to use smart mobile gadgets and DOI Theory was used for learning management system characteristics. Descriptive research was adopted. Population consist of six thousand five hundred and eighty-two (6,582) undergraduate students in LCU, Ibadan and MTU, Ibafo, Ogun State, Nigeria. Three hundred and seventy-seven (377) undergraduate students served as the sample size after Taro Yemmane table. Purposive sampling techniques was used before multistage and validated questionnaire was used to collect data. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Motivation to Use Smart Mobile Gadgets had significant influence on Perceived Academic Performance of undergraduate students in LCU and MTU at (r=0.442, p<0.001). It was also found that there is a significant and positive influence of learning management system characteristics on perceived academic performance of undergraduate students (r=-0.418, p<0.001), jointly, there is a significant and positive influence of motivation to use smart mobile gadgets and learning management system characteristics on perceived academic performance of undergraduate students at (r=0.507, p<0.001). The study concluded that motivation to use smart mobile gadgets and learning management system characteristics independently influenced perceived academic performance. A structured questionnaire was adopted as the instrument for data collection. The population of the study is made up of one-hundred and twenty-nine (129) undergraduate selected from private universities in Oyo state. Total enumeration was adopted to select the participants for this study. The study found a high level of motivation to use e-learning systems among the respondents (Mean = 3.53). it was also found that the level of computer self-efficacy (Mean = 3.49) and computer playfulness (Mean = 3.47) is high among the students The test of hypotheses shows that computer self-efficacy (F(1, 120) = 88.272, p < 0.05) and computer playfulness (F(1, 120) = 221.404, p < 0.05) has a significant influence on the motivation to use e-learning system by the respondents. The study also found that computer playfulness and computer self-efficacy F(1, 120) = 109.802, p < 0.05) have a significant combined influence on the motivation to use e-learning system of the respondents. The study concluded that if e-learning systems is to become the norm in Nigerian tertiary institutions, factors such as computer self-efficacy and computer playfulness are going to play an important role in the motivation of the students to make use of these systems. The study recommended that the university management should ensure that the high level of computer playfulness among the students is channeled into productive academic works through the production of innovative academic contents.
