dc.description.abstract | The study examined the influence of Information and Communication skills, work environment on the use of electronic records by health professionals in private hospitals, Ibadan, Oyo State. The research extracted relevant data from recent related work. The study design was descriptive, and structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection, with the study population consisting of 120 health professionals. The data collected was analyzed using inferential statistics. The results showed that the respondents were frequent ICT users (Mean = 3.74) which they used for keeping patients’ health records (Mean = 3.69) and managing healthcare processes (Mean = 3.61). The respondents also had a high perception of their skills in the use of Information and Communication Technology (Mean = 3.48) and their work environment was high (Mean = 3.60). Furthermore, the test of hypotheses revealed that ICT skills (R = 0.522, p<0.05), and work environment (R = 0.313, p<0.05) have a significant positive relationship with the use of electronic health records by health professionals in private hospitals, Ibadan, Oyo state. Both ICT skills and work environment had combined influence (Adj. R2 = 0.421, F(2,84)= 32.214, p= 0.000) on the use of ICT. The study concluded that increased ICT skills of health professionals are good indication of future progress. Therefore it was recommended that private hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo state should adopt purpose-built software for electronic health records management.
