Abstract

This research focuses on sustainable urban planning. This approach integrates innovative design principles and materials to enhance the durability, functionality, and ecological benefits of hardscape, such as pavements, walkways, and plazas. By utilizing permeable materials, strategic shading and reflective surfaces, the design aims to mitigate urban heat island effects, manage storm water efficiently, and promote thermal comfort. Additionally, incorporating vegetation and green infrastructure elements can further enhance environmental resilience. This paper explores various strategies and case studies to demonstrate how optimized hard surface designs contribute to climate adaptation and sustainability in leisure centres, providing a blueprint for future urban landscapes Keywords; climate resilience, landscape design, hard surfaces, Leisure centres, Thermal comfort, environmental resilience.
