dc.description.abstractHuman comfort in an environment is hinged on a number of factors that permit the wellbeing of the occupants regarding thermal comfort, anthropometric safety, acoustic and visual quality and these are useful through improved comfort levels for light, air, and smell. This research looks into lighting and how it is used to achieve user’s comfort and visual merchandising through the study of relevant literature and the use of case study approach of existing fashion houses in south-west Nigeria. Result of the study revealed that most fashion houses in Nigeria are a far cry from the required lighting standards. The lighting strategies like adequate light distribution, glare elimination, energy conservation discovered were incorporated into the proposed design which optimizes adequate lighting that positively and significantly impact the physiological and psychological needs of the users of the proposed facility in terms of comfort and enhanced visual merchandising. Thus, revealing that it is possible to achieve effective lighting in a fashion house using the identified strategies. The study recommends that stakeholders should look into adopting the identified strategies in order to achieve human comfort and visual merchandising in a fashion house or similar building design.
