dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the Housing Quality and Implications on Students’ Health in Non- Residential Tertiary Institutions in Ogun State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study include examining the housing types prevalent in the three tertiary institutions selected for the study, examining the physical facilities and conditions of housing in non-residential tertiary institutions examining the environmental conditions where housing is located and investigating the type of health problems students encountered. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained through questionnaire administration while the secondary data was sourced from literature and the Students Affairs Office of the tertiary institutions selected for the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data collected through questionnaires and the chi-square method was used to test the hypotheses. The results of the findings showed that the tenancy housing types were predominant in the three tertiary institutions selected for the study and most of the students resided in single rooms except some rich students who resided in self-contained bungalows. The physical facilities and the housing conditions in the three tertiary institutions showed that most of the houses fall short of housing standards. Also, the community environment was not good enough for the health of the students and as a result, the housing conditions had a great impact on the health of the students. Students attested to having malaria and typhoid most of the time and equally contend with pests and rodents. The hypothesis tested showed that the quality of housing in the three tertiary institutions selected for the study affects the health of the students. The study concluded that the quality and types of housing facilities in the adjourning communities of the three institutions selected have an impact on the health of the students. The study recommended that the institutions through the Students Affairs Office should monitor the housing facilities for the students and also engage house owners on the need to build houses based on good standards. Also, Private investors or private developers should be invited by these institutions to provide quality housing units that will enhance the good health and well-being of the students.
