Abstract
This thesis delved into the intricate interplay between landscape design and the creation of Islamic centres. It investigated the evolution of historical Islamic garden design principles, exploring how they are adapted and reinterpreted for contemporary contexts. The research examined how environmental factors such as climate and local flora influence the selection of landscape elements. It further analyzed how these landscapes contribute to the functionality of the centre, fostering spaces for prayer, education, and community gatherings. Additionally, the research explored how landscapes can enhance the user experience within these spaces, promoting feelings of tranquillity and spiritual connection. By studying existing Islamic centres and design practices, the project aimed to inform future design approaches and integrate sustainable practices into the creation of these vital community hubs. This unique focus on the landscape's impact offers valuable insights for a range of stakeholders, including architects, landscape designers, and Muslim communities. It empowered them to create Islamic centres that are not only aesthetically pleasing and functionally sound but also environmentally responsible and reflective of the evolving needs of Muslim populations.
