Abstract
This research analyses the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its peacekeeping and conflict resolution role within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, one of the longest and most complicated conflicts in international politics. This research describes and investigates the interventions of the UNSC, including key resolutions such as UNSC 242 and 2334, assessing both their diplomatic significance and limitations in enforcement. At the heart of the research is a discussion of how power politics, particularly the veto power of the P5 (China, Russia, France, UK and USA) shape the ability of the Council to take decisive actions. The findings of this study expose a deeply rooted issue of political bias, strategic alliance and shortcomings in the United Nations Security Council. The United States consistent vetoes in defense of Israeli interests are highlighted as a major hinderance to impartial conflict mediation. In addition, the presence of non-state actors like Hamas, regional crises, and humanitarian crises further complicate peacekeeping efforts. Despite these challenges, the UNSC remains a key institution in legitimizing peace efforts, setting international norms, and facilitating dialogue. However, the gap between its mandate and practical outcomes reveals structural weaknesses that demand urgent reforms within the UNSC especially concerning the veto power. This research contributes to ongoing debates on international peace and security, advocating for a more effective and impartial UNSC capable of addressing deep rooted conflicts. Without meaningful reforms to limit political interference, the UNSC will continue to fall short in addressing conflicts.
