dc.description.abstractThe academic achievement of Business Studies students in Junior Secondary Schools in Ibarapa-East Local Government, Oyo State, has been consistently below expectation, generating concern among stakeholders. This study investigated the influence of parental involvement and instructional materials on students’ academic achievement Business Studies. A descriptive survey research design was employed, targeting 731 Junior Secondary School students offering Business Studies in public schools. Through a multistage sampling technique, 202 students were selected. Data collection involved the Business Studies Achievement Test (BSAT, reliability = 0.79) and an adapted questionnaire on Parental Involvement and Instructional Materials (PIMQ, reliability = 0.81). Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), with hypotheses tested at the 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant combined influence of parental involvement and instructional materials on students’ academic achievement in Business Studies (F(2,352) = 18.64, p < 0.05). Specifically, parental involvement (β = 0.426, p < 0.05) and instructional materials (β = 0.337, p < 0.05) made significant individual contributions. Dimensions of parental involvement such as academic supervision and communication with teachers were found to positively impact students’ achievement. Similarly, the adequacy and effective use of instructional materials enhanced proper retention of Business Studies concepts. This study examined the critical role of academic supervision, communication with teachers and engagement in school activities in enhancing teaching and learning processes. It concludes that increased parental involvement and improved access to instructional materials are essential for enhancing students’ academic achievement in Business Studies. Consequently, it recommends that, strengthening parents teachers collaboration and ensuring the supply of adequate instructional materials, if they are effectively utilized would aid teaching and learning processes thereby improving the overall academic achievement of Business Studies Students in Ibarapa East Local Government Area.
