Item Emerging Technology Awareness, Data Literacy Skills, Institutional Support and Digital Records’ Management Practices among Librarians in Universities in Southwest Nigeria(Lead City University, Ibadan, 2024-12) Fehintoluwa Elizabeth OMOSEBIDigital records are becoming more pervasive in library and information centers which means that the traditional records management practices may no longer be effective. Taking up digital records management practices however requires some skills and strategies which may not be available to all. This study therefore examines the influence of emerging technology awareness, data literacy skills, and institutional support on digital records’ management practices among librarians in universities in southwest Nigeria. The study adopted a mixed method research approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. The research instrument consisted of a structured questionnaire, adapted from previous. The questionnaire was administered on 378 librarians from universities across south-west Nigeria out of which 272 were returned. Data analysis was done through the use of descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed a high engagement in digital record management practices among the librarians (Mean = 3.31). The result also showed a high level of awareness of emerging technologies (Mean = 3.42), data literacy skills (Mean = 3.41), and institutional support (Mean = 3.04). Furthermore, the test of hypotheses revealed that, while emerging technology awareness (Adj R2 = .220; P >0.05) and data literacy skills (Adj R 2 = .285; P >0.05) have significant influence on digital records management among the respondent, institutional support (Adj R 2 = .008; P <0.05) does not significantly influence digital records management practices. The study concluded that the high level of awareness and data literacy skills among librarians is an encouraging sign that should be boosted through adequate capacity development and institutional support which currently is not at the expected level. It was therefore recommended that universities libraries in Southwest Nigeria should invest in regular and comprehensive training programs focused on digital record management practices. The use of library is even more important for students enrolled in courses such as Nursing sciences. However, it has been observed that certain factors may work against regular library patronage among Nursing science students. In line with this, the study examined the influence of library service quality and information literacy skills on library patronage of student in College of Nursing Sciences Niger State. The researcher adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population for this study consists of one thousand eight hundred and six (1806) Students from all the (3) Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Niger State, Nigeria. The data collected from the survey was analysed using both inferential and descriptive statistics. The results show a high level of library patronage (Mean = 3.53), high quality of library services (Mean = 3.49), and high level of information literacy skills (Mean = 3.44) among the respondents. Furthermore, the test of hypotheses revealed that service quality (Adj R 2 .= 646; p.0.000) and information literacy skills. Adj R 2 .= 419; p.0.000) are significant predictors of library patronage among the respondents. The study concluded that library patronage is closely linked to students' positive perceptions of library service quality and students’ information literacy skills. It was therefore, recommended that college libraries should prioritize programs that integrate information literacy with high service quality. Word Count: 228Item Subjective Career Success, Job Characteristics and Employee Engagement of Librarians in Tertiary Institutions in Edo State, Nigeria(Lead City University, Ibadan, 2024-12) Queenneth ONWUESIWork engagement is one of the most researched organizational behaviour variables. However, while researchers have explored work engagement and its predictors among various professionals, not enough has been done in the context of librarians in Edo State, Nigeria. In line with this, the study investigates the influence of subjective career success and job characteristics on employee engagement of librarians in universities in Edo State. The survey research design was used in this study. The population comprised one hundred and thirty-five (135) library personnel in tertiary institutions in Edo State. Data was collected through the use of a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using both inferential and descriptive statistics. The results showed a moderately high level of engagement among the respondents. It was also found that there is a highly positive perception of subjective career success and job characteristics among the respondents. The test of hypothesis shows that individually, subjective career success (Adj. R2 = 0.91; p = 001) and job characteristics (Adj. R2 = 0.425; p = 000) have significant influence on work engagement among librarians in Edo State. However, the multiple regression analysis to test the combined influence of both variables revealed that, while they have combined significant influence (Adj. R2 = 0.420 p = 000) only job characteristics account for majority of the influence (t; = 7.748; p = .000) compared to subjective career success (t; = 0.144; p = .885). The study concluded that job characteristics of librarian is a better predictor of work engagement. It was therefore recommended that it is important to strengthen managerial support for librarians in Edo State to boost their morale. Regular feedback and increased managerial backing will help librarians feel more supported in their roles. This study thoroughly explored the impact of organisational culture, digital competence, and emotional intelligence on institutional repository management by personnel in academic libraries in Southwest Nigeria. The study population was 352 library personnel employed in the 14 university libraries that had adopted IR across Southwest Nigeria at the time of the research and the university librarians of the institutions. The entire 352 personnel and 14 university librarians were selected given the small size of the population and in a bid to eliminate bias using total population sampling. A mixed-method approach was applied, combining structured questionnaires titled 'Questionnaire on Management of Institutional Repositories and Organisational Culture, Digital Competence, Emotional Intelligence among Personnel in Academic Libraries in Southwest Nigeria' for library personnel and interview guide for an in- depth interview session with the university librarians. Experts with PhD status from the library school validated the instruments. The instrument's reliability and adequacy were confirmed. Two hundred and ninety-eight (298) copies of the questionnaire were returned, of which two hundred and forty-six (246) copies were certified as duly filled and considered usable. Also, ten university librarians were available for the interview. Data analysis involved both descriptive and inferential statistics. Frequency, percentage, and mean were used for analysing demographic information and the four (4) research questions, while regression analysis tested four (4) hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed a high management level of IR among the library personnel. Similarly, the organisational culture of the academic libraries was high, and the personnel possessed a high degree of digital competence and emotional intelligence. However, the digital competence of library personnel had the highest impact on the management of IR, with a total weighted mean value of 3.58. The results further showed a significant combined effect of organisational culture, digital competence, and emotional intelligence on the management of institutional repositories among personnel in academic libraries in Southwest Nigeria (F(3, 242) = 98.181, p < 0.05). The study concluded these factors are crucial for effective IR management in these libraries. It was recommended that the management of academic libraries strengthen workplace culture, enhance training in digital competencies and emotional intelligence, and prioritise the recruitment of skilled personnel. Additionally, university administrators are advised to make publication submission to institutional repositories a requirement for promotion and tenure renewal, helping to address authors' reluctance and encourage repository use. The study adopts a mixed method approach with a quantitative analysis of 441 university students in South-west, Nigeria and a content analysis of 6 universities students’ associations social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok and X. A stratified random sampling technique is employed, and the sample size is determined through rigorous statistical calculations. The study employs a structured questionnaire to collect data on indigenous identity, social integration, and digital content creation. Findings indicate a significant influence of indigenous identity on digital content creation (R2 = 0.157, β = 0.397, t= 9.057, p = 0.000 < 0.05), emphasising the importance of cultural identity in shaping students' digital engagement. Social integration also shows a significant positive impact on digital content creation (R2 = 0.155, β = 0.397, t = 9.057. p = 0.000 < 0.05), highlighting the role of social connections in fostering students' involvement in digital creation activities. Findings from the qualitative survey portray a lack of deep meaningful and innovative engagement of students with social media; and a disconnect of university students with their indigenous identity in digital content creation. Also, although there is a high level of social integration among students, there is little or no integration with students and their larger community of people who are not students. The study equally finds that digital technology used purposively by governments and institutions will engender positive results on the youths. In conclusion, the study underscores the complex relationships among indigenous identity, social integration, and digital content creation among university students in South-west, Nigeria. This study recommends the intentional adoption and targeted use of digital content in sensitive educational practices that leverage the positive influence of indigenous identity and social integration on digital platforms, fostering a more inclusive learning environment. This research contributes to the broader understanding of how digital content creation and cultural orientations intersect with digital engagement in the academic experiences of university students, particularly in the context of South-west, Nigeria.
