Item National Security under Former President Jonathan’s Administration: A Study of Boko Haram Insurgency(Lead City University, 2022-12) Aderemi Oludare, ADELEKEBoko Haram Insurgency is used to assess national security under previous President Jonathan. Some scholars link insecurity to individual lives and existence. Boko Haram is the result of politicians' thirst for power. This study investigates the effects that the Boko Haram insurgency had on the security of Nigeria under the administration of former president Jonathan, the origin of Boko Haram and factors responsible for insurgency in Nigeria, and the implications of Boko Haram insurgency on national security in Nigeria under former president Jonathan. Primary and secondary sources provided the study's data. This study project employed the basic percentage approach to analyze the replies, with 100% representing a sample size of 100. The data were sorted according to the study questions. R=0.853 implies a positive correlation. Therefore, Boko-Haram insurgency and national security in Nigeria under Goodluck Ebele Jonathan are linked. It was advised that the federal government see these people as terrorists who help and abet terrorism in Nigeria. They should be detained and convicted to act as a deterrence to others. Keywords: National, Security, Administration, Insurgency Word counts: 281Item Capacity Building and Job Performance among Junior Officer in Nigeria Air Force(Lead City University, 2022-12) Charles Apochai, OHWOWhile there seems to be consensus that capacity building is key to promoting job performance in an organization yet the nature of geographical terrain and the recent security threats of the country challenged the operation of servicemen. Until recently, optimal operational performance of junior officers in NAF on internal security concerns have been progressively low. Yet, the junior officers are the dominant cadre in the rank and file. Recognizing this shortcomings among junior officers necessitated the need for this research. In this study, exploratory research design was used. Primary and secondary data were sourced for different purposes. A sample of one thousand, three hundred and twenty (1320) junior officers were drawn from the study population. An average of thirty (30) junior officers were drawn from the Nigerian Air force. Structured interview was also deployed to help give qualitative information that was not obtained from questionnaire. Data obtained from second hand sources was used for a purpose different from that of the agency or platform that initially collected it from the field. The data in this research study were analysed using simple percentage combined with numerical, frequencies, histograms, and percentages. The study recognized that capacity building initiatives is a significant technique for improving human resource management in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The study discovered that documents such as the Professional Military Education (PME) and the Training Needs Analysis (TNA), the NAF manual of training and career progression, AFP 248, and other relevant documents attempted to develop and enhance its officers for increased performance. Keywords: Capacity Building, Job Performance, NAF, Officer Word Count: 253Item Counter Terrorism Strategies in Nigeria: Case Study of the Boko Haram(Lead City University, 2022-12) Bashir Omolaja, BOLARINWAThis study investigated counter terrorism strategies in Nigeria using Boko Haram as case study. The aim and objectives of the study is to identify the contributing factors to terrorism in Nigeria; highlight different concepts of counterterrorism strategies; investigate the dynamics of counterterrorism strategies in Nigeria; and interrogate the effectiveness of counterterrorism in Nigeria. Terrorism is commonly understood to refer to acts of violence that target civilians in the pursuit of political or ideological aims. Data collection techniques employed was descriptive and exploratory. Both interview and questionnaires were administered to discover the relative incidence, distribution, and interrelations of sociological and psychological variables. The population of the study comprises One Hundred and fifty (150) participants. In analysing both interview and questionnaire, the researcher which allowed for a representation of any age group, gender, and expertise with counterterrorism methods, were met by 40Members or citizens of the communities, 30 Members of the Security, 20Agencies, Repentant Boko Haram members and commanders, 20 Victims of Boko-Haram, 20 Internally Displaced Persons, and 20 Scholars/Academicians. It was concluded that counterterrorism operations of the Nigerian forces also brought to the fore the need for collective efforts among the internal security forces and within the regional forces. Recommendation were made that the Nigerian counterterrorism policy must outline the measures for fighting the threat of Boko Haram in the country future research which could be carried out to determine if the Nigerian counterterrorism policy meets the aim for which it was established. The objective of the study was to examine the causes and implications of xenophobia on trade relations between Nigeria and South Africa within 2011-2021. The Economic Growth Theory and Trickle-Down Effect Theory were reviewed as the theoretical framework of this study. Secondary sources of data were obtained from relevant books, journals, articles, newspapers, and blogs. Findings from this study revealed that no fewer than 117 Nigerians were extra-judicially killed in South Africa within 2016-2018, and over 5 buildings occupied by Nigerian business were burnt with unprecedented looting. There were also reports of attacks and looting of goods belonging to Nigerian businessmen and women. However, the causes of the xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South-Africa were found to be poverty which has its roots in apartheid. But, contrary to popular perception, Nigerians were said to have exaggerated the effect of violence on their citizens, probably because Nigeria has a better organised, savvy, and loud diaspora constituency in South Africa. It was concluded in this study that the ugly trend of xenophobic attacks has resulted in a cold war between Nigeria and South Africa in their socio-economic and political relationships. It is then recommended that the government of the South African should work towards fulfilling its constitutional and international obligation of protecting the lives, properties, and rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in their country, irrespective of their race or sex, creed or colour as articulated in various international agreements in which the country is signatory of. Nigeria in particular, is one of the countries that has a strong trade relationship with China. Chinese Products, dominate most Nigerian market with very affordable price compromised quality. Their pricing strategy, product design and ability to create brand awareness give their products an edge over the competitors. The study adopted a mixed method approach by combining a survey research design with exploratory research design. Survey research design is used when the research intends to study the variables, how they naturally occur without an attempt to manipulate them. A total of one thousand two hundred (1200) were administered in this research. The study concluded that, the price of these Chinese phones is a significant factors for most of its customers. Because of this, the rate variable has the affecting duty for acquisition purposes for clients, yet item packaging does not have much substantial impact on the acquisition choice for the purchasing of Chinese phones. The study recommended that the local entrepreneur needs to undergo training in areas of cost cutting, efficient use of resources while being encouraged to form clusters in order to benefit from economies of scale thereby driving down cost and by extension price of products. In addition to that, the study recommends that is necessary to set the packaging standard and to implement strategy accordingly for better protection and promotion of a product. Conflicts have to be resolved and transformed for peaceful coexistence to achieve one of the seventeen blueprints of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals – peaceful and non-violent societies. A process of attaining peace is peacebuilding. One of peacebuilding means is mediative dialogue. Many faith-based organisations, especially the Nigerian Baptist Convention, resolve conflicts among its churches through various means. As the world has metamorphosed digitally and social media changes communication means globally, using social media in mediative dialogue will likely improve conflict resolution by faith-based organisations. This research’s objective is to critically engage in the study of responses of the Convention’s pastors to the actualisation of Goal Sixteen, which aims at peaceful and non-violent societies. The study examined how the Convention’s pastors use social media in mediative dialogue to resolve conflicts in building peace in churches. The study focused on using social media in mediative dialogue among pastors in Baptist churches within Ibadan city. It focused on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Telegram. Its time frame is 2010 to 2020. It was done through three qualitative research methods: sample surveys, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The study discovers that many Baptist pastors in Ibadan have been using at least a social media platform. It reveals that while few pastors consciously use social media to promote sustainable peace and resolve conflicts through mediative dialogue, most pastors are sceptical about using social media to resolve conflicts through mediative dialogue. While most pastors that use social media use WhatsApp and Facebook, many are just migrating to Telegram, and few pastors use Twitter. The research recommended that governments, faith-based organisations, and pastors of the Convention should deploy social media in the process of mediative dialogue as an instrument for deepening sustainable peace. Keywords: Sustainable Peace, Conflict Transformation, Mediative Dialogue, Social Media, Nigerian Baptist Pastors Word Count: 293Item Political Leadership, Administrative Capability and Service Delivery in Oyo State Local Governments, 2011 – 2019(Lead City University, 2022-12) Samuel Olusegun AJANAKULocal government (LG) constitutes a critical tier of government because it is the third tier and closest level of government to the citizens, strategically placed to serve as an effective instrument to achieve economic prosperity for the grassroots. However, a critical review of LG showed they had not achieved excellent service delivery. Poor service delivery reflected in poor service quality, operational inefficiency, and poor responsiveness to community needs remain an overwhelming challenge in most local governments in Nigeria. Thus, strengthening LG leadership and administrative capacity become critical in addressing these LG poor service delivery. A mixed research design was adopted with a population of 7,840,864, including LG-employee and their citizens. A sample size of 384 was computed through Krejcie and Morgan's sample-size table for the LG-employees and residents, respectively. The study adopted the multistage sampling technique to select the LG-employee and the purposive sampling to select the residents. The instrument designed for the study was adapted and validated. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient range between 0.76 and 0.81. The response rate of 60.41% and 66.92% was achieved for both populations, and data were analysed through descriptive, content analysis, and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that Political leadership and administrative capacity had positive and significant effect on service delivery of selected LG in Oyo State, Nigeria Adj R2=0.462; p < 0.05, Q2 =0.148). The study concluded a statistically significant effect of political leadership and administrative capacity on service delivery of selected LGs in Oyo State, Nigeria. The study recommended that the management of the LGs investigated should focus on improving service delivery by enhancing its administrative capacity through innovative and strategic planning and should also prioritize its good leadership process to improve citizenship engagement, operational efficiency, quality services, and responsiveness, which will eventually improve service delivery. The study made use of an interview guide as a research instrument and random sampling technique was employed to select 15 respondents from Coca Cola. In this study, 5 research questions were answered. The results showed that global localization has impacted Coca Cola in many ways, it has given the company global recognition and the exposure to foreign investment opportunities, and it has enabled products to be developed and distributed globally and this allows our products to be available in almost every country of the world. Also, global localization has been efficient and has enabled Coca cola in optimizing performance with minimal inputs to achieve a higher level of outputs, and it has helped preserved culture and brand of Coca Cola and helped to reduce unnecessary wastage. Further findings showed that there are several global localization strategies used in Coca-Cola such as branding products with local names written on them, advertising the products with local dishes like Amala, Jollof rice, etc. identifying with local and traditional festivals etc, imbibing the culture of the local environment and also translate the marketing languages to local languages so as to be closer to the local community. Engaging local consumers, using local images and local actors/celebrities local branding such as "share a coke" designed to create a more personal relationship with consumers and inspire shared moments of happiness. It was recommended that there is need for the management to have a good understanding of the local market and use it as a strategic tool, this will enable companies better understand the market and have a competitive advantage. There are multi-dimensional approaches employed to confront the menace such as social capital. Thus, this thesis investigated how to harness social capital for a community-based poverty reduction, (A study of Ijebu Development Initiative on Poverty Reduction, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria). The global call of using Social Capital to tackle poverty is gaining more ground, consequently, it is significantly imperative to study the strategy as it contributes towards achieving poverty eradication which is the topmost of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The study described Social Capital as goodwill or social intercourse that heralds as the glue that holds communities together. However, Civil Social Capital was adopted under conceptual review, while OPTICOM Community Theory was adopted as theoretical frame work. This is as a result of its high capability of utilizing the civic energy to promote development with minimum cost. The study made use of a set of questionnaire and in-depth interviews for data collection while the Descriptive Content Analysis was used for the analysis of the collected data. The findings showed that the City Consultation which originally brought the people together dynamically unlocked the hidden and untapped community resources while traditional authourity, volunteerism and cluster innovation strategy led to the success and sustainability of IDIPR. The constraints confronting social capital initiative for community poverty reduction with research-based recommendations such as the promotion of social capital within communities were also made to mitigate the challenges and ensure the leeway for poverty reduction/economic development. The study has proved that social capital can contribute to community economic gains and poverty reduction; well-being; and to development in a sustainable manner. Word Count: 297Item Missiological Education and Intercultural Characteristics as Predictors of the Redeemed College of Mission’s Practical Trip in Southwest, Nigeria(2022-12) Samuel, MACDALLYSAbstract The study investigated missiological education and intercultural characteristics as predictors of the Redeemed College of Mission: practical trip in the Redeemed Christians Church of God, Southwest, Nigeria. There has not been any empirical study known to the research that is related or similar to this study. Three two hypothetical statements were formulated and tested to guide the study at .05 level of the significance. The study applied survey research design. A sample of 518 respondents was used for the study. The research instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire titled: Missiological Education and Intercultural Characteristics indices Questionnaire (MEICIQ). It contained 40 adapted items on a Liker scale. The instrument was subjected to face, content validity and construct validity and the Cronbach Alpha reliability estimate 0.83 was obtained. The data were analyzed using descriptive and multiple regression statistics. The results revealed that the regression correlation (R) is .075, R square equals .006 and Adjusted R square equals .000. This implies that the combination contributed 0.6% to the variation on practical trip. Hence, analysis of variance (ANOVA) produced F (3, 5145) equals 0.972; p>.05. This implies that it is not significant on practical trip. The result shows contribution of the individual variables factors; school facilities=0.061, t=1.375; p>.05; intercultural characteristics (B=0.04, t= 0.911; p>.05); training and development (B=0.008, t= .185; p>.05). In conclusion, the analysis of the result shows that school facilities, intercultural characteristics, training and development programme have no significant relationship with practical trip in the RCCG. Hence, it was recommended that the church administration should provide resources, facilities and support for Redeemed College of Mission. This study takes a look at the categorization of the concept of armed headsmen in relation to farmer-herder as it affects security architectures in South-West Nigeria. The study adopted the use of three theories; the tragedy of the common theory, the frustration-aggression theory and Fragile State Theory in justifying the nature and the pattern of aggressions arising from the relationships between the farmers-herdsmen in the region. The lacuna in the three theories made the researcher to come up with his theory “the interventionist theory” as adopted for the conduct of the study. The researcher adopted the use of qualitative approach to data gathering and analysis with the use of primary sources using key informant interview (KII) in interrogating identified critical stakeholders; the State, the Groups i.e. the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), All Farmer’s Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the host communities where the conflicts occurred. Also, the use of secondary sources like books, journals, articles, commission reports, newspapers, and online publications were empirically analyzed. The outcome of the study showed that the conflict has resulted in several thousands of deaths and wanton destructions of properties. The study concluded by explaining that the series of violent clashes could have been nipped in the bud if necessary agencies have done the needful as so much distrust, socio-economic and security breaches were created. The study, however, made several recommendations like the formulation of workable legislation devoid of political jingoism, establishment and implementation of the livestock transformation plan of Federal/State Government, use of information and communication infrastructures among others. Word Count: 298Item China’s Resource for Infrastructure (RFI) Deals in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Critical Analysis of Nigeria and Angola(Lead City University, 2022-12) Kazeem Oluwadamilola OLAJIDEThe aim of this thesis is to determine whether the relationship between China and sub-Saharan African nation-states, specifically Nigeria and Angola, is exploitative or collaborative through a thorough analysis of the key characteristics of resource for infrastructure deals. Resource for infrastructure (RFI) deals are agreements in which natural resources are used to pay back debts for infrastructure development. China needs of resources and markets for her ever growing economy and Africa needs of infrastructure to jump start the economy explains the rationale behind the RFI agreements between the two partners. For the fact that Africa has a long history of helping immigrants with their worldwide aspirations in the past, just as Westerners came to Africa in search of work as missionaries, businessmen, and infrastructure builders. They promised to help the continent's people escape poverty and place it on the globalization map, but all they managed to do was plunder Africa's wealth, take over one nation after another, and leave its people in terrible poverty. As a result of China's recent infrastructure investment projects on the continent, many people are concerned that this may turn out to be the case once more. Relying on qualitative analysis, the thesis adopts Complex Interdependence theory to interrogate the on-going vibrant China-Africa relations. Interdependence, mostly simply defined, means mutual dependence. Although the relationship is asymmetrical for now, in favour of China, in the long run however, it is assume that infrastructure acquired through the partnership would lead to economic development for Africa. The findings of the study reveals that China-Africa engagements through RFI is of mutual benefits and collaboration, as against the general held notion of exploitation of Africa by China. The study recommended, among others strong institutional capacity, transparency and accountability on the part of African states and leadership. Keywords: China-Africa Relations, Development, Interdependence, Resource for Infrastructure (RFI), Westerners Word Count: 295Item Nonviolence Mechanism and Conflict Resolution: Study of the EndSARS Movement in Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Oyewumi Joel OGUNMAKINIn every democratic system of government, the state through its security agencies is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of its citizens irrespective of their ethnic and religious identities. Nigerian youths have been experiencing different forms of abuse such as extra judicial killings, illegal detention and extortion, and so on from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the members of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). On 8th of October, 2020, the youth expressed their frustration and dissatisfactions by protesting in strategic government places. Although, the use of protest is one out of many other methods of nonviolence as a potent means of conflict resolution and social transformation. The study relied on secondary sources of data, hence, the historical and explanatory research design was used to elicit information on EndSARS movement in Nigeria and how nonviolence can be used as a mechanism of conflict resolution. However, the findings of this research revealed that unemployment, poverty, injustice, lack of rule of law, complete disregard for education and bad governance are the conflictual issues that led to the EndSARS protest. In addition to that, the success of nonviolent movement in other countries could serve as effective means of conflict resolution in Nigeria. The study, therefore, conclude that the adoption of nonviolent methods such as protest, strikes, boycotts and so on is capable of forcing desired social change in Nigeria. The study recommends that the ‘ruling elite’ need to ensure that adequate empowerment and development is done for the youth if truly they are to be the leaders of tomorrow. There are many reports on how processes take a long time, absenteeism without genuine reason, nepotism, corruption of various forms, and others. The study is about the strategies that can help in promoting productivity in civil service in Oyo state civil service. System theory, which states that organisations and its surroundings are inter-dependent, that is, each depending on the other for sustenance; Goal Attainment theory which views organisations as rational institutions whose primary purpose is to accomplish objectives; and Motivational theory which is a set of processes that determine the choices people make about their behaviours and also imparts incentives that require a response on the part of someone else to achieve a defined goal; are the theories that are used to explain the research. Primary and secondary data were used to gather information for this study. The conclusion of the study is that, for productivity to be effective, the employees of the Oyo state civil service have to be motivated through incentives that inspire and bring loyalty, which in turn will have impacts on their (civil servants) attitudes toward work. Keyword: Productivity, Civil Service, Corruption, Nepotism, Goal Attainment Word Count: 198Item Terrorism and the National Question in Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Akintunde Bashir BUSARIIn recent times, acts of terrorism perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists and other new terrorist groups have escalated, making Nigeria one of the most impacted countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The qualitative research method was used for this study. Social Contract Theory was adopted, and data were obtained through face-to-face and telephone interviews with 40 respondents. The non- probabilistic purposive sampling method was used with Borno State as the focus. Recommendations were made to aid counter-terrorist agencies in developing and applying additional and effective workable strategies in their fight against terrorism. Policies were recommended that may discourage terrorism initiations in Nigeria. Different social problems were identified stating the main reasons and primary causes of terrorism in Nigeria. Recommendations were made to boost the capacities of security agencies as well as address the prevailing social problems and inequalities affecting ethnic groups in Nigeria. This is to ensure that citizens across the country, who are vulnerable targets of terrorists' vicious activities, are protected and provided with opportunities. This is to make them self-reliant and useful citizens, thus preventing the aggravation of the national question through insecurity. Word Count: 346Item Gender Violence and Women Political Participation in Nigeria; 2015 & 2019 Political Dispensation(Lead City University, 2022-12) Oluwapelumi Abisoye, ADELEKEGender violence and women's political participation in Nigeria will be investigated from 2015 to 2019. Gender violence includes intimate partner abuse in heterosexual and same-sex relationships, as well as rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. The term "gender violence" refers to the perception that violence is frequently utilized to maintain basic gender inequality. Men and women have diverse roles and responsibilities in our families, societies, and cultures. These duties and obligations are referred to as gender. The study's objectives are to investigate gender violence as a form of political oppression, to examine the extent of women's engagement in Nigerian politics, to identify the problems women face in Nigerian politics, and to provide solutions to help women achieve their political leadership potential. Data was examined using the concept of the written act. Because this was a desktop research project, textual analysis was employed for the analysis. To do this, relevant literary works and historical data were utilised. The data was examined using content analysis. Inequality in the workplace is skewed against men. In terms of education, women have traditionally had a lower position than men. Women's education curriculum emphasized Home Economics, which includes sub-categories of Domestic Science such as needlework, embroidery, cooking, and child care. The colonial educational system was, in fact, sexist in its treatment of female pupils. In Nigeria, feminism arose from a rising desire to improve the circumstances of Nigerian women. According to the authors, education for women is important in eradicating inferiority complexes and equipping aspiring women to compete with men. Government and women's organizations should collaborate in both urban and rural areas to promote women's education and enlightenment via aggressive awareness and enlightenment campaigns. a public relations campaign intended at debunking the widely held idea that women are less valued than men Keywords: Gender, Violence, Women, Political, Participation Word counts: 300Item Globalization and the Rise of China in Africa: Study of Nigeria(Lead City University, 2022-12) Oluwafemi Oyedokun. ROTIMIThe globe has actually observed enhanced connection in the last twenty years, thanks to globalization. The primary motive power of this procedure is the internet, innovation, competitors as well as plan and also it subordinates domestic economies to worldwide market problems as well as methods. Chinese influence in Africa is high on the global agenda, as China within just a few decades has become a key political and economic power in the continent. Indeed, its emergence as a dominant economic and political actor might be the most important development in Africa since the end of the Cold War. This research analyses China’s economic and political relations with Africa beginning in the 1990s. Established nations are somewhat the recipients of globalization as their share of globe profession as well as financing has actually been increased at the cost of establishing nations bulk of which are domiciled in Africa. The study relied on secondary sources of data collections such as magazines, books, journals, reports and so on. The findings of the research revealed that Nigeria as well as China have actually profited from their polite relationships yet the partnership is not equally gratifying, having actually been slanted in the direction of China. The unequal connection in between both nations has actually raised the dependence of the Nigerian economic situation on China and also threatened its financial safety. The study recommends that, Africa and Nigeria in particular need to look internal for indigenous plans as well as programs of development created deliberately for Africa by Africans to develop themselves. The research also examined the linkages between security and e-identification to cushion the challenges of insecurity, corruption and financial impropriety in managing the affairs of the Nigerian State. It identified gaps on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria in prioritizing and managing e-identification and security programs in the country, which is very fundamental in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, Target 16.9 “provide legal identity for all including free birth registration”. The research adopted a descriptive qualitative and quantitative research method based on structured questionnaires / interviews and random sampling of respondents in six states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The analysis of the questionnaire was supported by secondary sources of information inputted into the structured questions to act as guide to validate the hypothesis proffered in the research work.
