Item Catalyzing Progress in Robotic Systems: Unifying Designs, Concepts, and Methods(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Emmanuel ADEDIRAN; Wilson SAKPERE; Moses OYINLOYE; Taiwo OGUNYINKARecent years have seen incredible progress in the field of robotic systems, transforming several industries and sectors. An overview of the ideas, schemes, and techniques used in the creation and management of robotic systems is provided in this study. This study examines the core ideas of perception, cognition, and control in robotic systems. It explores robots' sensory skills, including vision, touch, and proprioception, as well as how these interact with decision-making procedures. The research also explores soft robotics, a new subject that makes use of flexible and compliant materials to improve flexibility and interaction capabilities. Secondly, mechanical structures, kinematics, and dynamics are examined in relation to the design of robotic systems. The article also examines how to include power systems, actuators, and sensors into the entire design for more dependable and efficient operation. The paper also provides a thorough description of the techniques used in robotic systems. The study also examines the difficulties and factors to be taken into account while implementing robotic systems in practical applications. AKIN-FAKOREDEThe paper examined roles of library and information centres in the nation's development through the provision of information services with particular reference to the achievement of sustainable development goals in Nigeria. Researchers adopted quantitative research and descriptive survey research design to carry out the study using total enumeration technique to administer copies of the self developed structured questionnaire on the 177 sample size that was carved out from the 325 population of the study, consisting of the Academic Librarians and Non-Academic Librarians in libraries of government owned tertiary institutions in Lagos and Cross River States of Nigeria. The study is guided by three research questions. Although, the study provided evidence of some available services in the studied libraries for powering information awareness to include printed and non-printed information resources such books, scholarly journals, digital information services and internet connectivity. However, other library services such as newspaper clinging, newspaper indexing, current awareness campaign and audio-visual services that could have direct link to boosting library services in terms of achievement of SDGs were rated very low by the respondents. Respondents' perception revealed that irreversible corruption syndrome and poor leadership were among the major impediments to the actualization of SDGs in Nigeria while good governance and accountability, relevant information availability, good infrastructural facilities, well-equipped library, educated and well-informed society, funding of research and development, availability of competent medical personnel, availability of competent and independent judiciary were among the strategies needed for the actualization of the SDGs. The paper recommended that all hands must be on deck to eliminate corruption at all levels so as to pave the way for good governance that will translate to proper funding of prerequisite sectors such as education, medical, security, agriculture, social, economy that will constitute greatly to the actualization of the SDGs and thereby making life worthy of living for the Nigerian citizenry and non Nigerians living in Nigeria. Management of government owned tertiary institutions should engage in partnership with relevant stakeholders such as the alumni bodies, non-governmental organizations for financial supports so as to pave way more funding with a view to ensure robust services in Nigerian governments tertiary institutions.Item Nollywood: Nigeria's Multi-million Dollar Film Industry and the Fear of Imminent Collapse Under the Burden of Copyright Infringements and Organised Network of Piracy(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Prof. Taye BABALEYE; Halima Oyintiladun AdekunleThis study investigated stakeholders' perception of copyright laws infringements on Nollywood home movies. Survey research design was adopted with group discussion and key-personality interviews with movie producers, licensed movie marketers, actors, actresses and viewers of Nollywood home videos. One hundred and eight (108) stakeholders were purposively stratified and randomly selected around Lagos. Frequency counts, percentages and chi-square test were used for data analysis. A null hypothesis was tested at (.005) level of significance. The Pearson Chi–Square decision shows a value of 1.489 with degree of freedom (DF) put at 29. The calculated P value is 0.000. Null hypothesis that there is no copyright infringement and piracy affecting Nollywood industry was rejected. It was confirmed that there is high level of copyright infringement and organised piracy of Nollywood movies. Findings reveal that intellectual property rights of Nollywood movie creators are equally violated. The illegal practice is flourishing as a lucrative business. Findings also show that copyright infringement kills creativity and innovations in Nigeria. The study concluded that the rate of video piracy in Lagos alone (82%) is alarming and perpetuated with high level secrecy and criminality, using sophisticated technology including the video piracy on the internet. The study recommends thatthe Federal government should eradicate copyright infringement throughstricter laws with severe penalties of pirates. Regulatory bodies should intensify awareness campaigns on the evils of copyright infringements. Government should also enter into production treaties to prevent sales of pirated Nollywood movies in other countries.Item Perceptions of University Lecturers on Strategies Used to Teach Students with Disabilities at Ba Isago University, Botswana(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Duduzile NKOMOWorldwide, effective implementation of principles of inclusive education within the higher education sector remains dire. Nonetheless, the purpose of this study was to explore perceptions of university lecturers on strategies employed to teach students with disabilities. Mezirow Jack (1981)'s transformative learning theory underpinned the study. A qualitative research approach which utilises the constructivist paradigm was adopted. The chosen population comprised lecturers from a university in Botswana. Purposive sampling procedures were employed to select those who regularly sought guidance from the department of Psychology, Special Needs Education and Counselling department on the inclusion of affected students. Focus group discussions were conducted to collect relevant data. This was analysed thematically. The study established that there were several students with disabilities across all faculties. These periodically received counselling services from the department of Student Support and Welfare Services to cope with their conditions. To specifically accommodate those with residual vision, enlargement of font size on written sources was prioritised while augmentative and alternative communication skills were adopted to cater for the hearing impaired. However, efficient service provision was affected by lecturers' limited knowledge of suitable teaching instruction and shortage of assistive devices, amongst other factors. One of the major recommendations of the study is the development of higher education policies that are more specific on strategies to be employed when teaching students with disabilities in inclusive settings.Item Impact of Internet Addiction on Academic Performance of Biology Students in Tertiary Institutions in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Rebecca Iyabo OGUNRINDE; Saudat Titilope ADEYANJU; Damilola Jumoke IBIYEMIIt has been observed that student's academic performance in Biology has not improved over the years in Nigeria Tertiary institutions. It has been a major concern for lecturers to know the cause for the low performance and the solutions to the cause. To this effect, this study was carried out to determine the influence of internet addiction on the academic performance of biology students in tertiary institutions in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. The research design was a descriptive research whereby a self-designed questionnaire of 150 copies was used to elicit information from the respondents (n=150). three hypotheses were stated to guide the study. OREDEINThis theoretical review applies the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to explain the relationship between organizational commitment, secondary school teachers' digital phobia and blended learning effectiveness in Ibadan Metropolis and its implication on sustainable education for development. We explore the moderating variables of UTAUT that may change the way a teacher responds to the usage of technology, in this regard- blended learning. Variables such as job satisfaction, management or stakeholder support, empowerment, and social status to examine how it will affect the use of blended learning teaching approach in secondary schools using literature review. The study examines the implications of these factors for sustainable education. The findings suggest that organizational commitment is positively related to blended learning effectiveness, while digital phobia is negatively related to blended learning effectiveness. RAHEEM; Afolakemi O. OREDEINNursery and primary education is a weapon for acquiring skills, relevant knowledge and habit for surviving in the changing world. For any stage in education to achieve its milestones, there must be level of school effectiveness. This effectiveness relates to one of the efforts made by school to achieve what it was really created for, and make changes toward student level of achievement. To achieve this effectiveness, there is a new innovation called Montessori education where there must be a match between the child's natural interests and the available activities to help children learn through their own experience and at their own pace to achieve the nursery and primary milestones. While in Nigeria, there seem to be numbers of Montessori schools even though very few of these Montessori schools understand what the approach or method is really all about. This paper adopts a systematic approach to assess the availability and adoption of Montessori Method of education in contemporary nursery and primary schools in Nigeria and how it relates school effectiveness. The paper compares both the conventional ways of teaching and Montessori methods of education which shows that unlike the conventional method that believes in grading systems putting unnecessarily pressure on the children while the Montessori method considers helping the child not just mentally but also physically and emotionally with freedom of movement and choice at their own pace for effective learning. The associated benefits and challenges of Montessori education were also identified, while it also suggests the way forward. The Social Cognitive Theory and the Diffusion of Innovation Theory were used to underpin the study.Item Conflict Resolution Strate Conflict Resolutiongies and Sustainable Peace through Dramatic Acts in “Abejoye” Film by Mike Bamiloye(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Adekunle Olusola OTUNLA; Olayemi AKANDEA peaceful society creates opportunities for both old and young, but conflicts do occur which require appropriate approaches towards peaceful coexistence. Aside conventional interventions approaches; film writers and producers have embarked on film projects that convey spiritual messages which promote conflict resolution which is in tandem with UN Sustainable Development Goal-16; that promote peaceful and inclusive societies. Therefore, this study examines conflict resolution strategies and sustainable peace through the dramatic acts in “Abejoye” film series. The study adopted content analysis and purposively selected; “The Peacemaker”. Data was gathered through film preview of the episodes on YouTube Channel using a researcher-designed “Video Content Analysis Coding Sheet”. Data was analysed using non-frequency counts and contingencies of themes relating to conflicts and its resolution approaches. Findings revealed the themes in the film as concept of faith, conflict resolution, sustainable peace, redemption and God's power in fighting spiritual battles. Causesof conflicts in “Abejoye” film include; marital infidelity, hypocritical lifestyle, chieftaincy/power tussles and religious predispositions, while strategies for its resolution include mediation approach and persuasive skill. The study concludes that the film is a combination of elements of drama, action, and spirituality that engage viewers to deliver its message of hope, conflict resolution and sustainable peace. Hence, the study recommends mediation approaches and effective use of persuasive skill as veritable tools for conflict resolution in the promotion of sustainable peace globally. Also, the Mount Zion Christian Film Ministries should replicate the film concept in other major Nigerian indigenous languages for diffusion and wider reach.Item Health Risk Assessment of Potentially Toxic Elements in Groundwater Samples within a Petroleum Depot Host Community in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Olumuyiwa Olumuyiwa OGUNLAJA; Oluwakemi Abiola AKINTOBI; Abdul Dimeji ISHOLAThe proximity of the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) Depot at Apata in Ibadan, Oyo State to human settlement in the Adebisi Layout area of Apata may lead to groundwater contamination which is the main source of potable water supply in this layout. Hence the need to assess the physicochemical status and concentrations of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs) in groundwater samples in this layout. The physicochemical status, as well as the concentrations of PTEs (Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn) in ten groundwater samples within the study area, were determined by standard methods and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) respectively. The physicochemical parameters studied ranged -1 as follows: pH 6.64 - 7.38, temperature 27.2 - 29.2 °C, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) 0.99 - 1.60 mg L -1 and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) 1.05 - 1.65 mg L . The concentrations of heavy metals in groundwater samples were in decreasing order of Cd > Ni > Zn > Cr, with concentrations ranging from 0.04 - 0.31 mg -1 -1 -1 -1 L for Cd, 0.09 - 0.67 mg L for Cr, ND - 0.04 mg L for Zn and ND - 0.16 mg L for Ni. The concentration of Pb was below the detection limit. Data from the non-carcinogenic risks showed that groundwater consumption may lead to adverse health effects and unacceptable risks to the human health of the local inhabitants, but data from the carcinogenic risks assessment indicate no cancer risk.Item Navigating The Digital Age: Excessive Media Consumption, Emerging Adults' Mental Healthand Coping Strategies(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Emmanuel Oluwatosin OGUNFESO; Yetunde Oluwatosin OGUNFESOThis study examined the intricate nexus between excessive social media consumption, mental health outcomes, and coping strategies among emerging adults within the context of Lead City University, Ibadan. Analyzing data from 195 participants, the research unveils a significant association between the hours spent on social media platforms and dimensions such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. These results resonate with prior research, highlighting the need for proactive interventions to address the potential risks of unrestrained digital engagement. Furthermore, the study illuminates the patterns of seeking help among emerging adults grappling with mental health challenges. While individuals predominantly rely on their immediate social circles for support, there is a comparatively lower utilization of available mental health professionals. This underscores the significance of destigmatizing expert help and enhancing awareness about the array of support services available within the university. In response, the study underscores the importance of fostering an environment that promotes both mindful digital engagement and proactive mental health support mechanisms. These findings collectively advocate for Lead City University, Ibadan, to initiate targeted awareness campaigns, thereby cultivating a holistic ecosystem that prioritizes the mental well-being of its student population within the evolving digital landscape.Item Impact of Urban Mining Towards Sustainability of Lagos Mega City(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Akintunde Olaniyi ONAMADE; Opeyemi Adeola ASAJU; Bamidele Jonathan ADEWUMIUrban mining is a concept that involves the extraction of valuable materials from waste generated in cities. Lagos Mega City is facing a significant challenge in managing its waste, with a significant portion being disposed of in landfill sites, leading to environmental degradation and health hazards. This research aims to assess the impact of urban mining towards sustainable development in Lagos Mega City. This research adopted a quantitative research design method with a random sampling technique used in administering a survey questionnaire to residents of Lagos Mega City to assess their familiarity and knowledge of urban mining and its impact on sustainable development. The data collected from the survey were analyzed using statistical tools. The study identified respondents' familiarity, level of knowledge and the challenges of urban mining practices in Lagos Megacity. The result showed that 60no (49.6%) are familiar with the urban mining concept while 27no (22.3%) are not familiar and 34no (28.1%) are neutral, also the level of knowledge 37no (30.6%) are not knowledgeable, 49no (40.5%) are knowledgeable while 35no (28.9%) are neutral, lack of awareness constituted 75.2% of the challenges/drawback. The study recommended that efforts should be made by all stakeholders to raise awareness of urban mining especially among the young age to maximize the benefits of urban mining especially waste management strategy to achieve sustainable development in Lagos Mega City.Item Awareness and Use of Institutional Repositories by Academic Staff in Nigerian Universities(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Taofeek Abiodun OLADOKUNInstitutional repositories offer numerous advantages to academic staff as it provides access to local contents capable of enhancing their research and also offer the opportunity to make research works available to the global community. However, available evidence suggests a low level of institutional repository use among academic staff in Nigerian universities. This study examines the role of multidimensional awareness on the use of institutional repositories. The study adopts a survey research method. The study population is made up of academic staff from Universities in Oyo and Osun state. A multistage sampling procedure is adopted to select 235 lecturers. The research instrument is a structured questionnaire adapted from the Endsley's Situational Awareness Theory (SAT). Data collected was analysed with the IBM SPSS software using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results shows that while there is a high level of perception among the respondents, majority of the respondents demonstrated low level comprehension and projection, two dimensions, critical to the understanding of the true essence of institutional repositories. In addition, the test of hypothesis revealed that awareness has a significant influence on the use of institutional repositories among the respondents. The study concluded that, without raising full awareness about the mission and functions of institutional repositories, Nigerian tertiary institution and their staff will continue to miss out on the benefits of using institutional repositories. It was therefore recommended that institutional repository awareness programs should be practical oriented.Item Teachers Quality and Business Education Students Entrepreneurial Skills Development in Public Universities in South West, Nigeria(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Elizabeth Remilekun OREThis study examined the impact of teacher quality on Business Education students' entrepreneurship skills development in public universities in Southwest, Nigeria. The study examined the extent to which teacher quality has helped to build students entrepreneurship skills. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design method was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 100 to 400 level Business Education students from 11 public universities in Southwest offering Business Education as a course of study and multi stage sampling technique was adopted to draw the sample size. Firstly, simple random sampling technique was adopted to select four universities from the population of study while purposive sampling technique was used to draw the sample size of 400 participants from the population. A four rating structured online questionnaire titled “Teacher Quality and Business Education Students Entrepreneurial Skills Development Questionnaire” (TQBESESDQ) was employed to gather data for the study. Person Product Moment Correlation (r) was used to test the hypotheses. Results from the findings revealed among others that instructional methods adopted by teachers have a great effect on the development of students' entrepreneurship skills. Based on the findings, the study recommended that instructional methods adopted by teachers should be tailored towards improving self-reliance skills of students, teachers should be constantly trained and more qualified teachers should be employed in order to meet students' needs.Item Girl-child Education: A Geniune Tool for Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Development(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Oluwole Olajide OGUNBANJOGirl-child education refers to the aspect of education that aims at developing the skill and knowledge of girls and women from all castes, races and backgrounds. In Nigeria, like many other developing countries, girl-child education has often been neglected due to deep-seated cultural beliefs and economic difficulties that cut across the land; from the North to the south and from the East to the West. This paper, therefore, examined girl-child education issues in relation to poverty reduction and development within the setting of Nigerian society. The rampancy, causes, implications and remedies were conspicuously highlighted with deliberate focus on girl-child education as a tool for its reduction as well as enhancing inclusive development amidst the persistent social problems facing the nation. The concept of girl-child education was explicitly discussed. Benefits and challenges facing girl-child education as well as implications for inclusive development were also discussed. The paper observed that Nigeria is still struggling to meet her set target of poverty-free nation despite several governments' efforts on girl-child education. The paper eventually offered appropriate solutions and recommended among others that government should aggressively invest in girl-child education by ensuring that girls and women have access to quality education for the much desired positive impacts on the larger economy and the overall inclusive development of the nation.Item Innovative Teaching Strategies Required in Business Education for Sustainable Development(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Olaitan OyejokeAYOOLAThe advancement of technology in the world has brought about constant changes in innovative teaching strategies. For business education to achieve its goal of sustainable development due to global technological revolution, the use of digital and ICT based tools strategies in teaching and learning must be adopted. This study therefore examines theinnovative teaching strategies required in business education for sustainable development. The study also examines the concept of business education, concept of innovative teaching strategies, concept of sustainable development, the need for adoption of innovative teaching strategies in business education, challenges to effective utilization of these innovative strategies in business education as well as the way out of the challenges. It was suggested among others that business educators should adopt innovative strategies in teaching business education programme instructions to equip students with the necessary skills required in the present day business world. Also, educational institutions should regularly organize relevant training for business educators to constantly update their knowledge and skills, Government should also increase grants given to educational institutions to enable them provide needed ICT technologies and other infrastructural facilities for effective training of students.Item Knowledge of Global Warming and Associated Factors among Crop Production Farmers in Oyo Zone, Oyo State, Nigeria(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) K.O. LATEEF; O.A. ADELEYEGlobal warming is a serious environmental and economic issue confronting the world. It is a threat multiplier that worsens health conditions. Correspondingly, crop production is a significant contributor to anthropogenic global warming and reducing crop production emissions. In spite of the agricultural related challenges associated with global warming, previous studies focus on its knowledge across different population, with little concentration on crop production farmers. This study therefore, examined knowledge of global warming and associated factors among crop production farmers in Oyo Zone, Oyo State, Nigeria. Cross-sectional research design was used; registered crop production farmers of Oyo State Agric-business Development Agency were the population; while multistage sampling procedure was used to select a total of eighty seven (87) respondents. The result revealed that the level of knowledge of global warming was high (weighted mean=1.74) among crop production farmers in Oyo Zone. Furthermore, there was a significant gender difference in knowledge of global 2 warming (t=3.29, df=85, p<0.05). Also, age (÷ =27.07, df=3, p<0.05) and educational qualification 2 (÷ =34.89, df=3, p<0.05) had significant association with knowledge of global warming among the farmers. It was concluded that the knowledge of global warming was high among crop production farmers in Oyo Zone; of which male farmers had better understanding than their female counterparts. Also, age and educational qualification had significant association with knowledge of global warming among the farmers. The State Ministries of Health and Education should therefore intensify efforts to jointly organise periodic sensitization programme on knowledge of global warming specifically for crop production farmers.Item Picking Waste, Discarding Health? Awotan Waste Pick Effect of Interactive Materials' Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Omenihu George ODUALI; Christianah Olajumoke SAM-KAYODEUrban waste picking is assuming more visibility in the Nigerian informal economy with its waste to wealth potential. Agrowing body of literature identifies this activity as a viable source of income which leaves pickers vulnerable to health hazards inspite of little formal recognition by the state. Although persistent forays into this as a livelihood activity continues, more research is needed to properly understand the social dimensions of this issue. The study examined waste pickers risk perceptions, safety practices and public attitudes at work at Awotan landfill in Ibadan. Primary data was collected through questionnaires administered to 81 active pickers on site. Data was analyzed using inferential statistics. Results indicate that most pickers had at least a primary school level of education. There were twice as more males than females. More than 70% indicated the most prevalent health problem encountered at work were serious punctures and injuries from sharp objects followed by diarrhoeal and typhoid infections. 88% felt that their work type impacted on their health in hazardous ways such as snake bites and stings, falls and slips and held strong perceptions about the work-health implications for illnesses. Hospital waste was the most feared due to its association with probable blood infections from used needles, blood/body waste. Public attitudes to pickers while working was often negative. This study was carried out on the Effect of Interactive Materials' Intervention on Senior Secondary School Students' Academic Achievement in Set Theory in Oyo South Senatorial District, Oyo State. Aquasi-experimental design which involved pre-test and post-test with two intact groups was used for the study. Eighty-five SSS2 Students from two Senior Secondary Schools participated in the study. One school was used for treatment and the other school for control. One research question and one research hypothesis that was tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. The results revealed a significant effect of interactive materials' intervention on the academic achievement of students in Mathematics Set Theory at the Senior Secondary Schools in Oyo South Senatorial District (t= -6.981, p < 0.05). It was recommended that Mathematics teachers should make use of interactive materials as much as possible in teaching set theory at the senior secondary schools. It was also recommended that they should motivate students to actively engage with the interactive materials during lessons and allow them to manipulate objects, solve problems using visual aids, or collaborate in group activities. This approach fosters active learning and promotes a deeper understanding of set theory.Item Perception of Farmers on Climate Change on Agricultural Productivity in Ninewa Governorate of Iraq(Lead City University Ibadan, 2023) Olaleye Olusoji OJOThe study examined the perception of farmers on climate change on agricultural productivity in Ninewa Governorate of Iraq and was based on the conservation model and high payoff input model/theory. The study employed a mixed research design employing cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational research design, which were guided by both qualitative and quantitative data collection approaches. Five-point Likert scale questionnaire and key-informant interview were used for data collection. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the respondents for this study. Collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0. The study involved a response rate of 81(76%), which was good and acceptable for subsequent analysis. The study succinctly revealed a negative and statistically significant impact on 2 agricultural productivity. Based on coefficient of determination (r =0.172), the findings imply that the explained variation in agricultural productivity due to water scarcity and drought is about 17.2%. Based 2 on coefficient of determination (r =0.171), the findings imply that the explained variation in agricultural productivity due to declining precipitation is about 17.1%. Based on coefficient of 2 determination (r =0.115), the findings imply that the explained variation in agricultural productivity 2 due to extremely high temperature is about 11.5%. Based on coefficient of determination (r =0.2601) the findings imply that the explained variation in agricultural productivity due to dust and sandstorms is 2 about 26.01%. Based on coefficient of determination (r =0.282) the findings imply that the explained variation in agricultural productivity due to climate change is about 28.2%. Consequently, it is concluded that climate change has a negative and statistically significant impact on agricultural productivity. Based on this, it is recommended that the government should invest massively in environmental protection so as to improve on water precipitation in order to boost agricultural productivity in the governorate.
